Primary School — Grades 1–5

Growing Knowledge. Building Confidence. Inspiring Curiosity.

At Gateway International High School, the Primary School years from Grade 1 to Grade 5 are an important stage in every child’s educational journey. Our learning environment combines strong academic foundations with creativity, exploration, collaboration and practical experiences. We encourage students to become confident learners who enjoy asking questions, discovering new ideas and applying their knowledge to the world around them.

Learning With Purpose
Strong Foundations for Future Learning

Primary education is about more than completing a curriculum. It is about developing the knowledge, habits and confidence that help children become independent learners. Through engaging classroom experiences, practical activities and thoughtful guidance, students gradually learn to think critically, communicate clearly, solve problems and work effectively with others.

Our classrooms encourage children to participate actively in their learning rather than simply receive information.

Grades 1–2
Building the Foundations

In Grades 1 and 2, students strengthen their early literacy, numeracy and communication skills while discovering the joy of learning across different subjects. Reading, writing, mathematics, science, creative activities and hands-on experiences help children develop confidence and curiosity.

At this stage, we focus on creating positive learning habits and helping every child become comfortable expressing ideas, asking questions and working with others.

Grades 3–5
Exploring, Thinking & Creating

As students progress through Grades 3 to 5, learning becomes more exploratory and analytical. Children develop stronger subject knowledge while beginning to connect ideas across different areas of learning.

Students are encouraged to investigate, discuss, research, solve problems and present their understanding. Projects, experiments, collaborative activities and technology-supported learning provide opportunities to apply classroom knowledge in meaningful ways.

A Child-Centred Learning Environment

Our Primary School classrooms are designed to encourage participation, curiosity and collaboration. Teachers create engaging learning experiences where students can discuss ideas, experiment, work in teams and learn from their experiences.
Whether students are solving a mathematical problem, conducting a science experiment, reading a story, creating an artwork or building a technology project, the emphasis is on understanding, participation and meaningful learning.

Building Strong Academic Foundations

Primary students develop knowledge and skills across a broad range of learning areas. English and Languages strengthen communication, reading, writing and expression. Mathematics develops logical thinking, reasoning and problem-solving. Science encourages observation, investigation and discovery, while Social Sciences help students understand people, communities, history and the world around them.

Creative learning through Art, Music and Performing Arts, together with Physical Education and Sports, provides opportunities for students to develop their talents, confidence and teamwork.

Robotics, STEM & Innovation

Think. Build. Experiment. Innovate.

Gateway’s Primary School learning experiences can introduce students to age-appropriate STEM, robotics, coding and innovation activities. Children learn by building, experimenting, testing ideas and finding solutions to practical challenges.

The focus is not simply on technology. It is on developing logical thinking, creativity, problem-solving and curiosity while helping students understand how ideas can become real-world solutions.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

Explore • Participate • Collaborate • Create

Some of the most meaningful learning happens beyond the traditional classroom. Primary students can discover new interests through projects, activities, competitions, sports, arts, clubs and special learning experiences.

These opportunities allow children to explore their strengths, develop new skills and learn how to work with others in different situations.

Developing Future-Ready Skills

Alongside academic learning, we help students develop skills that support them throughout their education and beyond. Children learn to communicate their ideas, collaborate with classmates, approach challenges thoughtfully and take responsibility for their learning.

We encourage critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaboration, digital awareness, leadership and problem-solving through everyday learning experiences.

Growing Into Confident Learners

Confidence • Curiosity • Responsibility • Independence

Every child develops at a different pace. Our teachers provide encouragement, guidance and constructive feedback to help students understand their strengths and areas for growth.

As children move from Grade 1 to Grade 5, we encourage them to become increasingly independent — managing their learning, expressing their opinions, making responsible choices and taking pride in their achievements.

Our Teachers

Guiding. Encouraging. Inspiring.

Our Primary School teachers create positive and engaging classrooms where children feel comfortable asking questions, sharing ideas and learning from mistakes. Through observation, encouragement and meaningful feedback, teachers support students academically while also helping them develop confidence, responsibility and positive relationships.

Partnering With Parents

School and Home Working Together

Parents play an important role in a child’s Primary School journey. Open communication between school and home helps create consistent support for each learner. We value meaningful parent engagement and believe that working together helps children develop positive attitudes towards learning and personal growth.

Preparing for the Next Stage
Strong Foundations. Confident Learners. Bright Futures.

By the end of Grade 5, our aim is for students to have developed strong academic foundations, curiosity about the world and the confidence to approach new challenges.

The Primary School years are a time to learn deeply, discover interests, build friendships and develop the confidence to take the next step in the educational journey.

Learn. Think. Explore. Create. Achieve.
