Eligibility and Age Criteria
for Every Learner.
We welcome enquiries from families seeking admission for their children from Nursery to the higher grades offered by the school. Eligibility is assessed according to the applicable age requirements, previous academic records, curriculum guidelines, and school admission policies.
A child’s age is an important consideration when determining the appropriate entry grade, particularly during the Early Years. Parents are encouraged to confirm the child’s age eligibility with the admissions team before submitting an application.
The applicable age criteria and the date used to calculate a child’s age may depend on the academic year, grade level, and current education regulations. The school will communicate the requirements applicable to the requested admission year.

Please Note
Age requirements and cut-off dates can vary according to the academic year and grade level. We recommend confirming the official age cut-off date with the admission team before applying.
We believe every child learns differently. Our teaching approach aims to create an engaging, inclusive and supportive environment where students can participate actively, express their ideas and progress at their own pace.
Through interactive classroom sessions, discussions, projects, hands-on activities and guided practice, students connect what they learn with real-life situations. Our approach encourages curiosity, independent thinking, problem-solving and a genuine interest in learning.
The Early Years programme provides a foundation for children’s educational and personal development. Admission considerations include the child’s age, readiness for the relevant stage, and the school’s applicable eligibility requirements.
- Nursery: Entry is subject to the minimum age requirement applicable for the academic year.
- LKG / PP1: Eligibility depends on the required age and the child’s previous learning stage, where applicable.
- UKG / PP2: Admission is based on the applicable age criteria and completion of the appropriate preceding stage.
Parents should contact the admissions team to confirm the exact age cut-off dates for Nursery, PP1, and PP2.
Admission to Grades 1–5 generally requires the student to meet the applicable age and academic eligibility requirements for the requested grade.
The school may review previous report cards, transfer certificates where applicable, and other academic records to understand the student’s educational background and confirm grade placement.
Students transferring from another school will be considered according to their previous class, completed coursework, supporting documents, and applicable school policies.
For middle and secondary grades, eligibility may depend on the student’s age, successful completion of the preceding grade, academic records, and relevant curriculum requirements.
Parents should provide the student’s previous school records and any required transfer documentation. The admissions team can explain the grade-specific requirements and confirm whether applications are being accepted for the requested class.

Academic Readiness and Previous Schooling
In addition to age eligibility, appropriate grade placement may consider a student’s previous schooling and academic progress. This helps the school understand the student’s learning background and identify any transition support that may be needed.
Depending on the grade level and school policy, the process may include a review of academic records or an age-appropriate interaction or assessment. Any applicable requirements will be communicated to parents in advance.
-
Documents Required to Verify Eligibility
Parents may be asked to provide the following documents to support the admission application:
- Birth certificate or other accepted proof of date of birth
- Previous school report cards or academic records, where applicable
- Transfer certificate, where applicable
- Student photographs
- Parent or guardian identification and contact information
- Additional documents required for the requested grade
The school will confirm which documents are necessary for each application. All information should be accurate and consistent with the submitted records.
-
Transferring from Another School
We understand that families may seek admission to Gateway International High School after relocating or changing schools. Transfer applications are considered based on grade availability, previous academic records, eligibility requirements, and the documents required by the school.
Parents are encouraged to share the student’s current grade, previous school details, and requested entry grade so that the admissions team can provide appropriate guidance.

Important Information for Parents
Age requirements and grade eligibility can vary according to the academic year and applicable education guidelines. Parents should not rely on general age ranges alone when deciding which grade to apply for.
Before submitting an application, we recommend confirming
- The minimum age requirement for the requested grade
- The applicable age calculation or cut-off date
- Whether previous schooling or a transfer certificate is required
- The availability of seats in the requested grade
- Any additional documents or assessment requirements
Admission remains subject to the school’s applicable policies, verification of documents, eligibility requirements, and seat availability.
